The Assistant Vice President of Credit Policy is the person singly responsible for defining and interpreting Emporium’s underwriting philosophy for its underwriters, investors, regulators, and the broader public. In this role, the Assistant Vice President of Credit Policy will be responsible for updating and maintaining Emporium’s product guidelines, matrices and underwriting Policy and Procedures manuals as well as authoring internal and external announcements, program-based advertising materials, and any other internally or externally published materials related to Emporium’s program guidelines. The Assistant Vice President of Credit Policy is also responsible for staying up to date on changes to investor guidelines and credit requirements, training line underwriters on the application of Emporium’s policies, representing Emporium in discussions with outside entities regarding Emporium’s underwriting guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage product guidelines and Emporium Underwriting Manual updates, internal and external announcements, program based advertising materials, and any other internally or externally published materials related to Emporium’s program guidelines;
  • Monitor investor publications for changes to guidelines/requirements and determine impact to Emporium, where applicable, confer with investors on correct implementation of changes to guidelines/requirements;
  • Regularly consult with line Underwriting staff and senior leadership on changes to company guidelines in response to investor guideline changes, third-party review and audit feedback, and industry trends;
  • Lead the review of Underwriting Credit Policies and update them as needed with governance best practices;
  • Manage underwriter training programs and design and maintain underwriter performance scorecards;
  • Work with Credit Risk leadership to set criteria and independently test business line credit policy adherence and control effectiveness;
  • Support and execute testing and monitoring plans and report on results and escalate issues as necessary;
    Review and challenge business line policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Advise senior leadership on credit policy areas of opportunities and perform other related duties as required and assigned;
  • Bring a positive attitude, provide leadership and foster teamwork.

Requirements

  • 7+ years experience in managing Wholesale mortgage underwriting teams or implementing mortgage credit policies;
  • 2+ years experience with Non-Agency Underwiting required;
    Proven track record performing in-depth analysis and clearly reporting findings;
  • Proven track record of contributing to and leading projects;
  • Ability to provide advice/direction in primary areas of expertise;
  • Ability to support multiple assignments and stakeholders, self-prioritize workload and coordinate with direct reports and teammates to ensure that deadlines are met;
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to articulate complex problems in a simple manner.
  • Technical writing experience a plus

 

This is an On-Site position, requiring the canidate to report to our Frisco, TX office on a daily basis.
