Vice President of Underwriting
Role Summary:
The VP of Underwriting is responsible for ensuring that loans are evaluated for risk and comply with all company policies, regulatory requirements, and investor and agency guidelines. They help develop and update mortgage guidelines, determine the value of loans, and analyze insurance applications for risk exposure.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads a team of underwriters to ensure the comprehensive review and analysis of mortgage loan files, assessing income, assets, credit, and other collateral.
- Create and implement underwriting strategies to ensure the efficient delivery of loan decisions from the company.
- Manage and direct the underwriting function and ensure underwriting standards are implemented to protect company assets.
- Communicate loan decisions to appropriate parties in a timely manner.
- Monitor trends within the mortgage industry to ensure the company can anticipate upcoming opportunities and shifts in the market.
- Continuously review communications relating to products and internal procedures.
- Work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders to ensure effective and consistent communication.
- Partner with compliance department, risk management, and quality control to ensure alignment of risk profile and goals.
- Provides quality control measures, verifying that all loans comply with regulatory and investor guidelines.
- Train fellow underwriters on job functions, expectations, and responsibilities. Prepares performance reports of the underwriting team for executives.
- Conduct other compliance reviews as needed.
reQUIREMENTS
- 7 years of experience managing mortgage underwriting.
- Current knowledge of RESPA and MDIA regulations.Knowledge of FNMA/FHLM; and FHA/VA programs.
- 2 years experience of working with Non-QM/DSCR programs.Proficiency with Microsoft suite.
- 2 years AUS experience.Strong technical and leadership skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be detail-oriented, organized, and work efficiently under pressure.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
